Shaping the future of renewable energy in agriculture – ALFA final event

We invite you to join us on 25 September 2025 to mark an important milestone in the future of sustainable farming and renewable energy. ALFA project partners and key stakeholders from the biogas and livestock sectors will meet at theALFA Final Event and Policy Roundtable. Taking place in Brussels, it will bring together agricultural leaders, energy experts, policymakers, researchers, and innovators from across Europe.

The conference is more than just a project closure. It is a platform for knowledge exchange, policy shaping, and strategic collaboration. It will showcase the results of the ALFA project, an EU-funded initiative that has worked intensively over the past three years Its aim is to unlock the biogas potential of livestock farming and accelerate the market uptake of renewable energy in rural regions.

What to expect?

The final event is designed to combine knowledge dissemination with policy dialogue, ensuring that lessons learned from ALFA translate into actionable strategies for the future. The event will be structured in two main sessions:

  1. MORNING SESSION
    ALFA Final Dissemination Event

Participants will learn about the project’s findings, tools, and successful case studies. This session will highlight practical solutions that have been tested in the six participating countries, as well as lessons learned for scaling biogas adoption. Attendees will also discover how ALFA’s platform can be used to evaluate biogas potential and profitability at the farm level.

  1. AFTERNOON SESSION
    Policy roundtable

The second half of the day will bring together a policy panel of experts for an open discussion on the current policy landscape, limitations, and opportunities. Stakeholders will work together to develop practical recommendations for strengthening policy frameworks at both the national and European levels, making biogas a central pillar of Europe’s renewable energy mix.

Why not to miss the conference?

This event is a must for:

  • Farmers and agricultural cooperatives seeking to diversify income and improve sustainability.
  • Biogas plant operators and technology providers exploring new market opportunities.
  • Policymakers and regulatory bodies interested in evidence-based recommendations for energy transition.
  • Energy sector stakeholders looking for renewable, dispatchable, and storable energy solutions.
  • Researchers, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and environmental advocates engaged in climate change mitigation and circular economy strategies.

By attending the event, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Gain first-hand insights into the concrete results, innovations, and practical tools developed over three years of the ALFA project.

  • Take part in strategic policy discussions alongside leading experts, where your perspective can directly contribute to shaping the future of renewable energy in agriculture.

  • Connect with a diverse, Europe-wide network of farmers, technology providers, policymakers, researchers, and other stakeholders.

Be part of the change

Europe’s path to climate neutrality by 2050 will require more than just wind turbines and solar panels – it will need dispatchable, storable, and locally produced renewable energy sources like biogas.

The ALFA project has shown that livestock farming can be a powerful driver of this transformation, delivering benefits not just for farmers, but for society as a whole.

Let’s celebrate ALFA’s achievements together. Learn from its innovations, and contribute to a policy framework that will empower farmers and accelerate Europe’s renewable energy transition.

About the ALFA initiative

The ALFA project (Unlocking the Biogas Potential of Livestock Farming) was launched with a clear mission: to make biogas a practical, accessible, and profitable solution for farmers, while helping Europe achieve its climate and energy goals.
